The Wall Street Journal featured an insightful article into this year's installment of the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3,100-Mile Race. To check out the article, and watch the accompanying video, click here. Suprabha Beckjord, the subject of my film, The Spirit of a Runner, did not participate in this year's race. It was the first time she didn't run the race in the 14 years that the race has been taking place! I sent her a message the day the race began, indicating that I hoped she wasn't going through withdrawal too bad :) Incidentally, this year marks another first: female runner Surasa Mairer is running this year. She is the only other woman-- besides Suprabha-- to ever attempt the race.
On Monday, March 8th, The Spirit of a Runner (2009) will screen at the Washington D.C. Independent Film Festival as a part of the festival's special International Women's Day lineup. The screening will take place at the Navy Museum/Heritage Center (701 Pennsylvania Ave., NW) at 7 pm. Additional information about the screening can be found here.
