SYNOPSIS
A filmmaker pieces together the events that unfold around the tragic death of a loved one using recorded testimonies of friends and family. The resulting film observes the way time seems to stretch and compress following a traumatic event; in the filmmaker's case, the year that follows her trauma indeed feels like "the longest year."
A "documentary poem," The Longest Year explores memory and storytelling in relation to trauma. How do we process and remember traumatic events? How do we talk about them? How do we move forward from them?
